High School Baseball : PLAYOFF PAIRINGS

Helix (23-2), Mission Bay (22-3-1) and Julian (15-6) received the top seedings when the San Diego Section 3-A, 2-A and 1-A playoff pairings were announced.

Helix will host the winner of Tuesday’s Granite Hills (15-10)-Mira Mesa (17-8) game on Thursday in the 3-A division, and Mission Bay will host the winner of Tuesday’s game between Hilltop (8-13) and San Pasqual (15-9) on Thursday in the 2-A bracket.

Julian plays host to Midway Baptist (11-9) Wednesday in the first round of the 1-A playoffs.

Bill Tamburrino has announced his resignation after 11 years as baseball coach at Ramona High School.

“I just haven’t been happy with the job I’ve been doing,” said Tamburrino, whose team finished at 10-12 this spring, 4-8 in the Avocado League. “I don’t have the enthusiasm you need to run a varsity-caliber program.

“As head coach, you have to deal with field maintenance, fund-raising, summer ball, winter ball, parental pressures, the administration and other coaches and work with the kids. There were just more minuses than pluses.”
