In other 5-A first-round games:
Culver City 7, Notre Dame 6--A four-run Notre Dame rally in the bottom of the seventh inning came up short. Trailing, 7-2, Notre Dame started its comeback with a walk and two singles to load the bases. Jeff Antoon’s one-out single drove in two runs to cut the margin to 7-4. Bobby Hughes walked to reload the bases, forcing the exit of Culver City starter Mark Davies (7-4).
Reliever Mauricio Estavil was greeted with a two-run single by Kevin Milligan that cut the Culver City lead to 7-6.
The comeback bid soon came skidding to an end, however. After another walk loaded the bases, Jason Antoon lined into a game-ending double play.
Mike Peterson, who allowed four walks and hit a batter in three innings, took the loss.
Matt McElreath’s two-run homer in the fifth accounted for Notre Dame’s other runs.
The Knights finished 17-10. Culver City, which will face Simi Valley in the second round, improved to 16-12.
Ocean View 15, Thousand Oaks 10--Six Thousand Oaks pitchers allowed 18 hits as the Marmonte League’s No. 2 representative dropped a slugfest. Starter Dan Chergey (5-3) took the loss.
Thousand Oaks (17-8-1) fell behind, 13-3, after five innings, but scored seven runs in the seventh to make the score respectable. Steve Sisco hit a grand slam for Thousand Oaks in the seventh.
Riverside Poly 10, Glendale 0--Riverside Poly’s Randy Graves had three hits, including a three-run home run that keyed a five-run second inning.
The usually explosive Dynamiters (14-8) entered the game with four players batting better than .330 but were limited to four hits by Gary Adcock (8-2).
