Florida Brothers Lead Surfing Qualifying at Salt Creek Beach Park
Brothers Kelly and Sean Slater of Cocoa Beach, Fla., advanced to today’s fourth round of the men’s division of the $55,000 Body Glove Surf Bout at Salt Creek Beach Park Thursday.
Kelly Slater is a four-time amateur champion; this is his second professional competition.
Orange County qualifiers for the fourth round were: Dan Kennedy of San Clemente, Chris Schutte of San Juan Capistrano, Christian Fletcher of San Clemente, Joe McNulty of Capistrano Beach, J.P. O’Conner of Laguna Niguel and Scott Farnsworth of Huntington Beach.
Today’s competition begins at 7 a.m. The event is the eighth stop on the Professional Surfing Assn. of America tour.
