Stark set the Orange County single-season record for passing yardage with 2,706 in 1985 for Capistrano Valley. He was redshirted at Stanford in 1986. He played a few games for the Cardinal in 1987, including a start against UCLA. He was 6 of 16 for 43 yards with 2 interceptions for the season.

Brian Johnson, a sophomore, was named starting quarterback for Stanford this season and Stark was listed third on the depth chart. Stark then decided to transfer to Saddleback. He said he at the time he was looking for a new opportunity at the Mission Viejo school.

But by the time Stark arrived at Saddleback, he was already behind Phil Marks and Lance Stewart, who had been in the program all summer.

“Things really just didn’t work out,” Stark said. “So I decided to leave the team, and I wanted to do it before the season started.”
