Linebacker Pete Ortiz and free safety Matt Burrola have been a two-man wrecking crew for Bishop Montgomery’s defense through two games. Ortiz leads the Knights in tackles and has two interceptions and a blocked field goal, while Burrola has two interceptions and three caused fumbles.

Rolling Hills running back Tim Wagner scored four touchdowns Friday night in a 41-6 victory over Mira Costa to give him an area-leading six TDs on the season. He scored on runs of 2, 6, 53 and 2 yards.

Brent Nunez has returned a kickoff for a touchdown in each of Torrance’s games. His 90-yard scoring return in the fourth quarter lifted the Tartars over Redondo, 24-18, last Friday. The week before, he returned the opening kickoff 99 yards for a TD against South Torrance.

Junior quarterback Terence Sullivan accounted for all the points in St. Bernard’s 26-19 win over Sweetwater of National City. He ran 25 and 5 yards for TDs, threw scoring passes of 77 and 68 yards to Jason Lucky and tossed a two-point conversion to Darryl Brown.

Who’s Not

At least Mira Costa’s football team is consistent. The Mustangs have given up 41 points in each of their games, losing last week to Rolling Hills, 41-6, after being shut out by El Segundo, 41-0. They are 4-18 over the last three seasons.

The South Bay’s longest football losing streak was extended Friday night when Narbonne fell to Westchester, 25-6. The Gauchos have lost 13 straight games dating back to the 1986 season and are 2-17 in the last three years.

The Cal State Dominguez Hills women’s soccer team lost twice in its own tournament last week to end a 17-game home winning streak and fall to 1-4-1. Ranked sixth on the West Coast, the Lady Toros dropped 1-0 decisions to UC Davis and Sonoma State.

The eight Ocean League football teams have a combined record of 3-12, and six teams--West Torrance, Morningside, North Torrance, Mira Costa, Redondo and Centennial--have yet to win. Only Culver City, with a 2-0 mark, owns a winning record.
