Jeff Rujek rushed for 103 yards in the first half to lead Los Amigos High School to a 46-0 victory over Garden Grove Friday night in front of 175 at Garden Grove.

Rujek finished with 112 yards in 11 carries. One of his two 29-yard runs--a draw play that went for a touchdown with 3:15 left in the second quarter--gave Los Amigos its first score.

“Our offensive line was excellent,” Rujek said. “You could have driven a truck through those holes.”

The Garden Grove offense might have felt as if it had been hit by a truck.

Garden Grove (0-4 and 0-1 in Garden Grove League play), set up offensively in a run-and-shoot offense that may have better been termed run and hide. It gave up 4 turnovers that led to four Los Amigos touchdowns and had just 20 total yards for the game.

The Garden Grove defense was similarly underwhelming. Los Amigos (1-3, 1-0) punted just twice, turned the ball over once, and scored on its other 7 possessions.

Los Amigos Coach Art Michalik explained his team’s first victory as being more attitude than execution: “We ran the same plays today that we ran the last 3 weeks--it’s just that the kids got a feeling of winning.”

Rujek carried just twice in the second half as Michalik played mostly second- and third-string players.
