Prep Football : El Toro Gives Up Little in 21-3 Victory
El Toro High School’s rugged defense gave up a field goal to El Dorado but nothing else in a 21-3 victory in front of 1,500 fans at Mission Viejo High School.
El Toro is 3-2, El Dorado 2-3.
After a scoreless first quarter, El Dorado’s Phil Nevin kicked a 52-yard field goal on the first play of the second to give the Golden Hawks a 3-0 lead.
With 9:10 left in the half, El Toro quarterback Steve Stenstrom passed 48 yards to wide receiver Jason Drinkwater for a touchdown, and Ken Romaniszyn’s kick made it 7-3.
With 9 seconds left in the second quarter, Jason Vivonia caught a 6-yard pass from Stenstrom to give El Toro a 13-3 lead.
Fullback Dave Nemeth scored El Toro’s final touchdown on a 6-yard run, and Vivonia caught a pass for the 2-point conversion to wrap up the victory.
