PREP FOOTBALL : Angelus League : Brown Gets 4 Touchdowns in Servite’s 42-13 Victory

Derek Brown rushed for 140 yards and scored 4 touchdowns as Servite High School opened Angelus League play with a 42-13 victory over Bishop Montgomery in front of 1,000 at Bishop Montgomery.

Brown, who missed most of the second quarter with a cut on his right hand, went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season. He has 1,048 yards in 6 games.

Bishop Montgomery took a 3-0 lead on a 41-yard field goal by Scott Altenberg.

Servite took the lead on a 28-yard run by Brown with 6:18 left in the first quarter.

Servite quarterback Chris Johnson threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Oscar Ford with 2:02 left. Greg Dovidio’s conversion made it 13-3.

Another 41-yard field goal by Altenberg pulled Bishop Montgomery (4-2, 0-1) to within 13-6 at halftime.

A pair of turnovers gave the Friars (6-0, 1-0) scoring opportunity in the third quarter.

Jeff Hinsvark blocked a punt to give Servite the ball on the Bishop Montgomery 23. Garrett Greedy scored on a 1-yard run 4 plays later.

On Bishop Montgomery’s next possession, Servite’s Chris Melodia recovered a fumble at the 35. Brown capped the 7-play drive with a 4-yard touchdown run.

Brown also scored on runs of 1 and 4 yards in the fourth quarter.
