James Kinchen, the North American Boxing Federation super-middleweight champion, will replace Fulgencio Obelmejias in a Nov. 4 fight at Las Vegas against 4-time champion Thomas Hearns, promoter Bob Arum said.
Kinchen, who won the NABF title last week on a decision over Marvin Mack, was brought in as a late replacement after Obelmejias, the World Boxing Assn. super-middleweight champion, withdrew Tuesday, citing broken ribs he suffered in his last fight. Hearns, who planned to go after an unprecedented fifth world title in the 168-pound fight against Obelmejias, will instead fight for the NABF crown held by Kinchen.
