PREP FOOTBALL : Sunset League : Westminster Runners Pound Out Victory

Westminster High School controlled the line of scrimmage at home against Ocean View Friday night, rushing 41 times for 215 yards and 2 touchdowns in an 18-13 victory.

The Lions are 3-4 overall, 2-0 in the Sunset League. The Seahawks dropped to 3-4 and 0-2.

Quarterback Bob Elliott scored from 2 yards out with 5:35 to play to give Westminster the victory.

Two Ryan Pence field goals gave Westminster a 6-0 halftime lead. Early in the third quarter, senior fullback Mike Graff set up the Lions’ first touchdown with a 37-yard run to the Ocean View 12-yard line.

Osavale Fiaseu scored from 1 yard out 3 plays later to give Westminster a 12-0 lead. A 2-point conversion try failed.

Graff finished with 120 yards in 18 carries, and Fiaseu rushed 15 times for 56 yards.

The Seahawks scored twice within 3 minutes in the third quarter to take the lead. Dean Martinez capped a 9-play, 63-yard drive with a 1-yard run.

On the ensuing kickoff, Darryl Stegall fumbled, and Norris Perez of Ocean View recovered at the Lions’ 23.

Five plays later, quarterback Randy Karliner scored from 2 yards out on a fourth-down run to give Ocean View a 13-12 lead. The Seahawks missed the 2-point conversion try.
