A 17-year-old high school football player collapsed on the field during a game at Ellensburg, Wash., and died of undetermined causes, authorities said.

A spokesman at Kittitas Valley Community Hospital identified the player as Keith Jewett, a senior linebacker for Ellensburg High School. Jewett lost consciousness as he lined up for a play in the fourth quarter of the homecoming game Friday night against West Valley of Yakima, Wash.

Doctors at the game tried to revive him, using cardiopulmonary resuscitation, but he never regained consciousness and died after being taken to a hospital. An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause of death.
