PREP FOOTBALL : Freeway League : Sunny Hills’ Fast Start Takes Care of Sonora, 30-7

Sunny Hills High School scored 9 points in the first minute Friday night and went on to defeat Sonora, 30-7, in a Freeway League game at Buena Park High School.

The Lancers (6-2, 2-1) were led by running back Brian Pizula and Kevin Oberby, who combined for 199 yards rushing in the first half. Pizula had 107 yards in 4 carries, including a 61-yard touchdown run in the second quarter. Oberby had 92 yards rushing in 9 attempts, including a 46-yard touchdown run on the second play of the game. He also scored on a 2-yard run in the second quarter.

After Oberby’s touchdown, the Lancers increased their lead on the ensuing kickoff when Sonora’s Stuart Cochran muffed the ball and was tackled by Tom Hicks in the end zone for a safety.

Linebacker Mike Oster returned an interception 49 yards in the second quarter and Sunny Hills led, 30-0, at halftime.

Sonora (1-7, 1-2) scored its only touchdown with 4 minutes 15 seconds remaining in the game. Raider quarterback Kevin Cook fumbled at the goal line after a 13-yard run and teammate Frank Rodriguez recovered for the touchdown.
