CSDH Tied at Soccer on Call in Overtime
The California Collegiate Athletic Assn. soccer race got tighter, hinging on a disputed call Saturday night that disallowed an apparent goal in overtime by Cal State Dominguez Hills and left the Toros tied with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 1-1. The tie, coupled with Cal State Northridge’s victory over Cal State Bakersfield, left the Toros and Northridge together in first place with two games to play. Dominguez Hills is 5-1-2, Northridge 6-2.
The Toros took a 1-0 lead on Mark Merino’s first-half goal, but host SLO answered late in the second half on Dan Campbell’s score. Toro goalie Chris Wilson made a fingertip save at the end of regulation to preserve the tie.
The Toros’ Rich Gaboldin scored in overtime but the goal was negated by a ruling that the Toros were offside.
