Santa Paula 10, Agoura 3--In a defensive struggle, Santa Paula (8-2, 4-1) turned away the Chargers (6-3-1, 3-2) to earn second place in the league at Santa Paula.

Agoura, which finished third and also will advance to the playoffs, had a chance to win but its final drive ran out of time on the Cardinals’ 26-yard line.

With 8:18 to play, Santa Paula snapped a 3-3 tie when Jerry Torrez hauled in a 42-yard scoring strike from quarterback Rick Carpenter. Rodriguez’s point-after completed the scoring.

Santa Paula’s Juan Rodriguez tied the score with a 47-yard field goal in the third quarter.

Zac Miller kicked a 26-yard field goal with 4 seconds left in the first half to give Agoura a 3-0 lead.

Carpenter connected on 8 of 20 passes for 101 yards and the game-winning touchdown.

Agoura quarterback Josh Smaler completed 13 of 23 passes for 157 yards. Greg Ochoa made 6 receptions for 85 yards.

Agoura outgained Santa Paula, 280-160, in total yards. Agoura’s Dave Caramanis carried 22 times for 63 yards and caught 3 passes for 22 yards.

The Chargers controlled the first half, rolling up 134 yards in 31 plays to Santa Paula’s 48 yards in 17 plays.

Dustin Magdaleno rushed 12 times for 52 yards and caught 4 passes for 28 yards for Santa Paula. Torrez caught 3 passes for 70 yards.
