Georgia Downs CS Long Beach, Iowa Coasts in Tournament

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Georgia took an 18-point lead at halftime en route to an 80-63 victory over Cal State Long Beach Friday in the Amana-Hawkeye basketball tournament.
Georgia, led by Litterial Green, outscored the 49ers, 23-10, in the last 11 minutes of the half to take a 43-25 edge at intermission. Green had 11 of his 18 points in that run.
Long Beach countered in the second half with a 16-7 spurt that cut Georgia’s lead from 54-35 to 61-51 on 2 Rudy Harvey free throws with 8:11 to play.
But Georgia put the game away with a 13-8 run that gave the Bulldogs a 74-59 lead with 1:45 left. The Bulldogs’ Alec Kessler, who scored 11 points in the second half, finished with 18.
Marco Fleming led Long Beach with 18 points, and Harvey added 12.
The 49ers (0-2) will play Brown in the consolation game of the 4-team tournament tonight.
Georgia (3-1) will meet Iowa (3-0) in the championship game. The No. 6-ranked Hawkeyes defeated Brown, 109-61.
Reserve Ray Thompson scored 14 points, and Ed Horton and Roy Marble each had 13 in the Iowa victory.
