Quarterback Fred Schweer threw three touchdown passes to lead Woodbridge High School to a 21-0 victory over Agoura in a Southern Section Division VIII semifinal football playoff Friday at Agoura.

Schweer completed 12 of 26 passes for 242 yards as the Warriors improved their record to 12-1 and advanced to the championship game next Friday night against Trabuco Hills, the only team to defeat Woodbridge this season. Trabuco Hills defeated Woodbridge, 17-13, in the final regular-season game.

The Woodbridge defense had three interceptions, including two by defensive back Alex Zaldivar, in posting its fourth shutout of the season.

The Warriors, who won the Desert-Mountain Conference championship last season, allowed Agoura (8-4-1) only 73 yards in total offense.

“We just couldn’t find our offense tonight--it wasn’t us,” Agoura Coach Frank Greminger said. “It’s just that they took it away from us. Their quickness really gave us trouble, but I thought we could run the veer option a little better.”

When Woodbridge’s top running back, senior Scott Seymour, broke his collarbone on the second play of the game while playing defense, Woodbridge went to the passing game.

The Warriors took a 7-0 lead on their first possession when Schweer connected with Mike Yurkovich on a 56-yard screen pass play with 5 minutes 30 seconds left in the first quarter.

The Chargers looked as if they might tie the score in the third quarter when they worked the ball to the Woodbridge 25, but the drive stalled there.

Instead of trying a 41-yard field goal, quarterback Josh Smaler tried a fake and threw an incomplete pass, which ended the drive.

Woodbridge increased its lead to 14-0 when Schweer connected with Bryan Nash on a 20-yard play with 11:05 left in the game.

The Warriors made it 21-0 on a 22-yard pass play from Schweer to Chris Blades with 6:01 remaining.

Nash had 5 receptions for 89 yards, and Zaldivar caught 3 passes for 55 yards.

“We knew they were a tough defensive team because nobody had scored a lot of points on them,” Woodbridge Coach Rick Gibson said. “Scott (Seymour) is a big part of our running game. Brett Gordon (Seymour’s replacement) is a good kid, but he’s untested. He’ll be tested next week.”
