In the Orange Lutheran tournament:

Southern California Christian 52, Capistrano Valley Christian 40--The Flames outscored Capistrano Valley Christian, 23-5, in the fourth quarter for the victory. Shawn Wiltshire scored 19 points for the Flames (2-0).

Orange Luthern 84, Providence 32--Jason Neben scored 19 points for the Lancers, who led, 45-13, at halftime. Pat Bagatourian had 12 points for Orange Lutheran (2-0).

In nonleague games:

Santa Margarita 53, Avalon 37--Dan Bathey scored 11 points and had 12 rebounds in Santa Margarita’s first varsity game. Bathey scored the first basket in the history of the school. The game was played in the grand ballroom of the Avalon Casino on Santa Catalina Island because the high school’s gym was closed.

Canyon 57, Esperanza 51--John Hutchinson scored 15 points and Brian Bailey 14 to lead host Canyon (1-0). Matt Werner had 15 points for Esperanza (0-1).

Covina 61, Fullerton 60--Kevin Cable scored 22 points to lead host Covina (1-0). Pete Bach scored 33 points for Fullerton (0-1).

Dana Hills 54, Bolsa Grande 37--John Lloyd scored 20 points for the host Dolphins (1-0).

El Modena 78, Troy 59--Senior Robbie Pietsch scored 27 points and had 9 rebounds for El Modena in the opener for both schools at Troy. John Darrow added 15 points and 8 rebounds, junior forward Jeff Leedom scored 16 points and senior forward Ramsey Rycraw added 14 points for El Modena.

Loara 58, Pacifica 53--Sophomore Tes Whitelock scored 32, 22 in the second half, to lead host Loara (1-0). Dustin Bonham had 11 points for Pacifica (0-1).

Orange 73, Villa Park 58--John Emigh and Rob Sallinger each scored 18 points to lead Orange (1-0) at Villa Park. Chris Johnson scored 22 points and Chris Kirby 20 for Villa Park.

Sonora 63, Anaheim 62--Mark Rivera made 2 free throws with 18 seconds left for host Sonora. Greg Farlow had 14 points for Sonora.

Sunny Hills 70, Cerritos 60--Jeff White scored 24 points to lead Sunny Hills (1-0) at Cerritos. Walter Mitter had 16 points and Marcu Hopkins 14 for the Lancers.

Western 82, Rancho Alamitos 59--John Armenta scored 19 points and Joe Ramero 17 to lead Western (1-0) at Rancho Alamitos. Gary Lira scored 15 points for Rancho Alamitos (0-1).

Westminster 69, Katella 59--Tim Deitel scored 18 points and Don Shaw 17 to lead Westminster (1-0) at Katella. Brian Yourstone scored 18 points for Katella (0-1).
