High School Basketball Roundup : Helix Starts League Season by Pummeling Mt. Miguel

Rich Haar scored 18 points and had 5 rebounds and 4 steals as Helix High School opened its Grossmont 3-A League basketball season with a 61-39 victory at Mt. Miguel Tuesday night.
Henry Lundy added 11 points for Helix, which was 19 for 26 from the free-throw line and led, 40-20, at halftime.
Grossmont 2-A League
Santana 71, El Cajon Valley 48--Paul Newark scored 25 points, including 6 three-pointers, and Jason Maloney scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for Santana (4-0, 1-0). Matt Panebianco also scored 10 points for Santana, which led, 36-21, at halftime. Kevin Davis scored 13 points to lead host El Cajon Valley (0-2, 0-1).
Nonleague
Monte Vista 76, Hoover 54--Jeff Polinsky scored 27 points and Bren Jacobson added 18 points and 16 rebounds to lead Monte Vista.
Monte Vista (1-1) made 10 of 12 shots in the first quarter to take a 28-6 lead, and finished the first half 17 for 27 (63%). Hoover (0-3) was 8 of 27 in the first half. Roger Blake (22 points) and Bracy Simmons (19) combined to score 41 of Hoover’s 54 points.
Crawford 65, Marian 32--Tracy Halton, who is averaging more than 25 points in 4 games this season, scored 26 for visiting Crawford (4-0). Dana Hawkins added 13 points and 12 rebounds for Crawford, which jumped to a 21-5 first-quarter lead. Jerry Conlin scored 11 points for Marian (0-2), which made only 4 of 22 free throws.
Grossmont 62, Granite Hills 54--Sophomore Todd Cady scored 19 points to lead visiting Grossmont (2-2). Kent Smith added 19, and Kevin Simon had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Grossmont. John Russell led Granite Hills with 15 points.

Santana 85, El Cajon Valley 19--Leslie Moffett scored 23 points, Rebecca Aase had 16 and Stephanie Thompson added 13 to lead Santana.
Nonleague
Ramona 46, Sweetwater 35--Kris Miller scored 19 points and Maleea Van Patten added 12 for host Ramona.
