Mt. San Antonio College stayed with Valley for a half Wednesday night before the Monarchs turned the game into a three-for-all.

Joey Manliguis and Tory Stephens rained 8 successful 3-point shots on Mt. SAC in the second half and Valley rolled to a 100-61 victory in a nonconference men’s basketball game at Valley.

“If they’re going to let us shoot 3-point shots, we’re going to do it,” Valley Coach Jim Stephens said. “We’ve got those kind of shooters.”

Mt. SAC (4-7) knows that all too well.

Valley (4-3) came out sluggishly and led, 38-29, at halftime by virtue of an 8-0 run just before intermission. Then Manliguis and Stephens took over.

Manliguis, who finished with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals, opened the half with a 3-point goal and hit 2 more in the first 6 minutes. He made 5 3-point attempts in the game.

Stephens celebrated his 18th birthday with 28 points and made 4 3-point goals in the second half. Valley made 10 3-point shots in all, Warren Vinson converting the last with 5 seconds remaining as the Monarchs reached triple figures for the first time this season.

Valley shot 67% in the second half--making 16 of its first 21 shots--and 57% for the game. The Monarchs outscored the Mounties, 70-32, over the final 23 minutes.

Oral Elrington (15 points), Gerald Franklin (11) and Andre Bouvay (10) also scored in double figures for the Valley.
