Prep Roundup : Corona del Mar Beats Irvine in Soccer Shootout

Will Hill, Joey Perez and Matt Brown scored in the shootout to lead Corona del Mar High School to a 3-2 victory over Irvine Friday in the Irvine boys’ soccer tournament.
Goalie Chris Connelly stopped 2 penalty kicks for the Sea Kings. Corona del Mar (4-0-1) plays San Clemente in the final tonight at 5 at Irvine.
Chris Smith and Enrique Galli scored for Corona del Mar in regulation, which ended, 2-2.
San Clemente 1, Sunny Hills 0--Stewart Bradshaw scored in the first half on a rebound of Kirk Neal’s shot for San Clemente (3-1-1) in the other game at Irvine.
In nonleague boys’ soccer:
Anaheim 5, Fullerton 1--Mauricio Cruz scored 3 goals and Mike Psarnas and George Neito added 1 each for visiting Anaheim (3-0-1). Goalie Jose Escopedo had 6 saves for Anaheim.
Katella 1, Newport Harbor 1--Tim Maskrey scored for Newport Harbor and Jack Hipp scored for Katella in the season opener for both teams.
In girls’ nonleague soccer:
Mater Dei 1, Capistrano Valley 0--Tina Manfre scored 30 minutes into first half on an assist from Robyn Camarillo for Mater Dei (1-1). Goalie Michelle Lodyga had 9 saves for Mater Dei.
In the Sunrise League girls’ basketball:
Connelly 41, St. Matthias 40--Ceci Carter scored 12 points for host Connelly (3-2, 2-0). Christa Tomacheski had 20 rebounds for Connelly.
In the Ceres girls’ basketball tournament:
Marina 60, Beyer 57--Melisa Sortino scored 26 points, Lisa Orosco 13 and Gillian Bean 10 for Marina in the second-round game in Modesto.
In girls’ nonleague basketball:
Capistrano Valley Christian 42, St. Margaret’s 16--Carrie Shannon, a junior guard, had 21 points and 10 steals to lead Capistrano Valley Christian. Jorgelina Giosa had 11 rebounds in the Eagles’ season opener at home.
Orange 64, Troy 33--Ginnie Hall and Nicole Champion scored 16 points and had 11 rebounds each for host Orange (2-2). Laurie Sallinger had 10 points for Orange.
Woodbridge 85, Buena Park 41--Deanna Harry scored 19 points and had 14 rebounds and Leslie Rathbun had 19 points also for host Woodbridge (5-1).
