THE PREPS : Basketball Roundup : Troy Wins on Late Shot in Overtime

Senior forward Louie Jackson hit a 15-foot jump shot with 18 seconds left to give Troy High School a 53-52 overtime victory over Orange Wednesday night in a non-league boys’ basketball game at Orange.

Troy led, 49-47, with less than a minute left in regulation. But Rick Afalava hit a jump shot with 18 seconds left to force overtime.

Richard Wesley scored 15 points and Mike Abbott 14 for Troy, which led, 30-26, at halftime.

Orange is 2-3.

In other nonleague games:

Fullerton 65, Los Alamitos 52--Pete Bach scored 20 points and Curtis Morris added 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Fullerton (2-3) in its home opener.

Servite 68, Bolsa Grande 50--Steve Marusich scored 20 points to lead the Friars (3-3) at Bolsa Grande. Andy Kennedy had 11 points for Servite.

Sonora 55, Magnolia 52--Sonora was trailing, 43-31, in the third quarter but went to a full-court press to get back in the game.

Sonora (3-2) outscored Magnolia, 20-10, in the fourth quarter to take the lead. Brian Holt led Magnolia with 11 points, 9 of them in the fourth quarter.

In the El Dorado tournament:

Sunny Hills 76, El Dorado JV 40--Marcus Hopkins scored 17 points and Jeff White 15 to lead Sunny Hills (4-1) in a first-round game.

David Ragsdale scored 11 and Walter Mitter 10 for the Lancers, who led, 44-17, at halftime.

In the Glendora tournament:

Villa Park 68, Monrovia 50--Chris Johnson scored 38 points to lead the Spartans in a first-round game at Glendora High School. Villa Park led, 8-7, after the first quarter, then outscored Monrovia, 24-13, in the second to take a 32-20 halftime lead.

In the La Quinta tournament:

La Quinta 82, Katella 74--Scott Campbell scored 26 points to La Quinta in a championship semifinal. The Aztecs (4-1) took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Knights, 30-18, to take a 68-51 lead.

Campbell scored 12 points in the third quarter. Scott Linck added 19 and James Johnson 15 for La Quinta. Brian Yourstone scored 26 points for Katella.
