Girls’ Basketball Roundup : El Toro Goes Overtime for 51-50 Victory Over Mater Dei

Kristin Bebis made 2 free throws with 40 seconds to give El Toro High School a 51-50 overtime victory over Mater Dei Friday in the third-place semifinals of the Savanna girls’ basketball tournament at Savanna High School.

Bebis also made an off-balance 12-foot jump shot at the buzzer to tie the score, 49-49, and send the game into overtime. She finished with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

The Chargers (7-1) trailed, 41-30, entering the fourth quarter, but outscored Mater Dei (6-2), 19-8. Sara Bone had 17 points and 14 rebounds for El Toro.

Mary McCarthey scored 18 points for the Monarchs.

In other Savanna tournament games:

Loara 69, Villa Park 36--Heidi Sorour scored 14 points, Tracy Titus, Michelle Roland and Traci Berven scored 10 each for Loara (6-3) in the fifth-place semifinal game.

In the Orange Lutheran tournament;

Rosary 56, Orange Lutheran 35--Cari Gracia scored 20 points to lead Rosary in a championship semifinal game. Pam Marty scored 13 points for Orange Lutheran (4-1).

In the Santa Ana Valley tournament:

Bolsa Grande 42, El Modena 13--All 11 Bolsa Grande players scored, led by Jennifer Tracy with 8 in the consolation championship semifinal game.

In Valley Christian tournament action:

Woodbridge 49, St. Joseph 46--Woodbridge trailed, 46-40, with 1:11 left but rallied behind the outside shooting of Leslie Rathbun for the semifinal victory. Rathbun made two 2-point jumpers and a 3-pointer and Kris Willis added 2 free throws to seal the victory. Rathbun had 14 points and Lisa Wehren 13 for the Warriors (7-1).
