Soccer Roundup : Lovie Leads Esperanza Girls to Victory Over El Toro

Jennifer Lovie scored with 10 minutes remaining to break a 1-1 tie and lead Esperanza to a 2-1 victory over El Toro in a semifinal game of the Cerritos girls’ soccer tournament Saturday at Cerritos High School.
The Aztecs, who extended their winning streak to 9 games, will meet Temple City at 7 p.m. Monday in the championship game at Gahr High School.
Esperanza, led by sophomore Lynn Murray’s 2 goals, defeated Marina, 3-1, in an earlier quarterfinal match Saturday.
In another Cerritos tournament match:
Marina 1, Capistrano Valley 1 (Marina wins on penalty kicks, 2-1)--Erin Bains and Anna Wiederrich scored the penalty kicks to lead Marina (7-2-1) in the fifth-place semifinal at Cerritos High School. Julie Muche scored the Vikings’ only goal during regulation.
In boys’ soccer:
In the Orange tournament:
Mission Viejo 1, La Habra 0--Center halfback Joe Max Moore, named the tournament’s most valuable player, scored the only goal in the championship game.
In the Hacienda Heights Wilson tournament:
Cypress 10, Bassett 0--Joey Chavez had 5 goals for Cypress, a single-game school record, and Corry Senco scored 2 to lead Cypress in a first-round game. Mazy Akhlaghi scored 1 goal to extend his scoring streak to 5 games.
Cypress 1, Sierra Vista 0--Joey Chavez scored the lone goal to lead Cypress (7-3-1) in the second-round game. Cypress will play Diamond Bar in Monday’s semifinals.
In a nonleague game:
Fountain Valley 3, Brea-Olinda 2--Todd Jackson scored the winning goal with 2 minutes remaining in the game at Fountain Valley. Derek Mahoney and P.J. Polowski scored a goal apiece for Fountain Valley (5-1). Jason Ochs and J.R. Ochs each scored a goal for Brea-Olinda (3-3-1).
