Point guard Todd Dixon scored a game-high 20 points, and collected 6 assists and 5 steals to lead Southern California College past visiting Concordia, 100-74, in a nonconference game Saturday night.

“We’re a little tired from last night (an overtime victory),” said Dixon, a senior from Fountain Valley. “We did the little things that count. When we want to be, we’re a pretty good team.”

The Vanguards (8-1) took an early 5-point lead and led by as many as 34 points in the second half. SCC outrebounded Concordia, 34-25, and kept strong defensive pressure throughout the game.

SCC’s Kyle Lundy, playing with 11 stitches in his hand, returned after being sidelined for 2 games because of an injury and scored 16 points and had 6 rebounds. SCC center Jeff Bickmore had 14 points and 8 rebounds.

“It’s good to have one easy win,” SCC Coach Bill Reynolds said. “Dixon shot well, gave assists and made steals--this is our first real blowout of the year.”

SCC made 41 of its 79 attempts from the field (52%) while Concordia (3-10) of Ann Arbor, Mich., went 26 for 56 (46%).

“We usually just play well enough to win,” said Reynolds. “But we just asserted ourselves tonight. It’s good to have one easy win.”
