High School Roundup : Kearny Gets Measure of Revenge Against Madison With 58-57 Victory

Share

The Limited Division boys’ basketball game in the Kiwanis tournament between Kearny and Madison high schools Tuesday was a rematch of last season’s San Diego Section Division II championship game in the Sports Arena.

Kearny got its revenge, winning in overtime, 58-57, at La Jolla High.

Andre White made a layup and subsequent free throw to give Kearny (7-3) a 3-point lead with 4 seconds remaining in overtime. Then, Madison’s Robby Robinson was fouled while attempting a half-court desperation shot at the buzzer. His two free throws with no time remaining left Madison a point short.

White led all scorers with 20. Robinson had 17 for Madison but was held without a second-half field goal by the combination of Mark Hood and Kearny’s box-and-one defense. Madison is 4-5. Kearny has played three overtime games this season.
