Boys’ Roundup : Savanna Tops Magnolia to Win Pacifica Tournament Title

Jim Priest scored 19 points to lead Savanna High School to a 64-53 victory over Orange League rival Magnolia Friday in the championship game of the Pacifica tournament at Pacifica High School.

Savanna led, 18-11, at the end of the first quarter, but Magnolia rallied to pulled within 35-31 at halftime. Savanna outscored the Sentinels, 17-11, in the third quarter to take a 52-42 lead.

Tim Tillman scored 13 points, Mustapha Abdi 12 and Eric Preuss 10 for Savanna.

Richard McKee scored 20 points and Jerry Jones 17 for Magnolia.

Priest was named the tournament’s most valuable player.

In the third-place game:

Cantwell 67, Troy 49--Ace Ayala scored 15 points and Randy Reynolds 14 to lead Cantwell. Leading, 44-37, after the third quarter, Cantwell outscored Troy, 23-12, in the fourth quarter to win going away. Mike Levario scored 12 points for Cantwell. Richard Wesley scored 11 points for Troy.

In the consolation championship:

Pacifica 76, Westminster 45--Jason Brodowski scored 15 points and Dustin Bonham 14 to lead Pacifica (5-3). The Mariners led, 17-8, at the end of the first quarter and 36-20 at halftime. Mike Maher and Randy Schultze each scored 12 points for the Mariners. Maher also had 12 rebounds. Bill Maurer had 12 assists for Pacifica. Bonham scored 85 points in 3 tournament games, including a 40-point performance against Loara Thursday night.

In the Nogales tournament:

Tustin 61, Leuzinger 55--Cheavly Ly had 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists to lead Tustin (9-3) in a consolation game. The Tillers led, 26-25, at halftime then outscored Leuzinger, 18-9, in the third quarter to take a 44-34 lead. Tom Sheehy and Dylan Stieler each scored 12 points for Tustin.
