PREP BASKETBALL : Garden Grove League Roundup : Campbell Scores 42 Points to Lead La Quinta, 84-74

Scott Campbell scored 42 points as La Quinta High School defeated Rancho Alamitos, 84-74, Wednesday in a Garden Grove League boys’ basketball game at La Quinta.

Campbell, a 6-foot 5-inch senior, made 13 of 23 field goal attempts and 14 of 17 free throws. He also had 8 rebounds.

La Quinta led, 22-13, at the end of the first quarter and 47-28 at halftime.

Bill Snyder had 17 points and Scott Linck 11 for La Quinta (6-4, 1-0). Snyder also had 8 assists and Linck 7 rebounds.

Greg Lira scored 20 points and Dave Green 19 for Rancho Alamitos.

Kennedy 79, Bolsa Grande 39--Jim Barker and Tom Deep each scored 16 points to lead host Kennedy (8-4, 1-0). The Fighting Irish led, 21-9, at the end of the first quarter and 39-21 at halftime.

Los Amigos 59, Garden Grove 56 (OT)--Chuck York tied the score at 54-54 with 21 seconds remaining in regulation. Los Amigos (2-6, 1-0) held the ball for the last shot but Carlos Palomino’s 16-foot jump shot hit the rim twice and rolled off to send the game into overtime. The Lobos then outscored Garden Grove, 5-2, to win. Palomino had 2 of his 24 points in overtime. The Lobos led at halftime, 37-30, but were outscored, 16-7, in the third quarter. York finished the game with 17 points; Joe Squyres added 14 and Brian Tran 10.

Pacifica 74, Santiago 51--Dustin Bonham scored 22 points to lead Pacifica (6-3, 1-0) at Santiago. The Mariners led, 20-11, at the end of the first quarter and 36-22 at halftime. Bill Maurer scored 13 points and Mike Maher 11 for Pacifica. Maher also had 10 rebounds. Jardin Diamond scored 16 points and Jason Heskett 13 for Santiago (0-6, 0-1).
