Prep Roundup : Smith’s 2 Goals Propel Ocean View

Jed Smith scored twice in the second half to help Ocean View High School rally for a 3-2 victory over Fountain Valley in a Sunset League boys’ soccer match Friday at Huntington Beach High School.
Fountain Valley led, 2-1, when Smith scored on a breakaway with 6 minutes left in the match. Smith then scored the game-winner, again on a breakaway, with 1 minute left.
Ocean View (10-4-1, 1-0) took a 1-0 lead 19 minutes into the match on a goal by Steinar Jorgensen. Fountain Valley (12-5-1, 0-1) tied the score with 2 minutes left in the half on a goal by Todd Jackson.
Derek Mahoney scored with 1 minute left in the half to give Fountain Valley a 2-1 lead.
But Ocean View goalie Paul Bjelajac, who made 7 saves, shut out the Barons in the second half.
Goalie Joey Penaflor made 2 saves in the first half for Fountain Valley. Kyle Thomas replaced Penaflor in the second half and also made 2 saves.
In the Empire League:
Katella 1, Loara 0--Armanda Orizaba scored in the second half for host Katella (7-4-2, 1-0). Paul Bravo had 3 saves for Katella and Bill Norris had 8 for Loara (8-4-3, 0-1).
Cypress 1, Los Alamitos 0--Joey Chavez scored 15 minutes into the second half for host Cypress (10-4-1, 1-0). Goalie Ray Arvizu made 10 saves in recording the shutout.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Laguna Hills 3, Orange 1--Doug Bivens, Scott Clark and Brian Beamon scored for host Laguna Hills (6-1-4, 3-0-2). Val Guitierrez scored for Orange (3-6-2, 1-3).
Woodbridge 5, Trabuco Hills 3--John Sczuka scored 2 goals and Bill Cummins, Troy Holme and Rudy Damon also scored for host Woodbridge, which led, 3-0, at the half. Greg Damon scored 2 goals for Trabuco Hills.
In the Garden Grove League:
La Quinta 2, Kennedy 2--Diego Adbes and Kyong Kim scored for Kennedy and John Koren and Steve Kalajian scored for host La Quinta (5-5-1, 1-1-1). Matt Logan had 7 saves for La Quinta and Jeff Davis had 8 for Kennedy.
In the South Coast League:
Mission Viejo 4, Dana Hills 2--Jeff Jurgemeyer and Joe Max Moore scored second-half goals as host Mission Viejo (13-1, 1-0) broke a 2-2 halftime tie. Jim Eddow and Andy Wortrich scored in the first half for the Diablos.
In nonleague girls’ soccer:
Sunny Hills 7, Connelly 1--Senior center Missy Porter scored 4 goals, 3 in the first half, to lead host Sunny Hills (5-2-2). Angela Mackintosh, Heidi Gugler and Stacy Thurber scored the other goals for the Lancers. Yoni Mahoney scored for Connelly.
