High School Boys’ Soccer : Agoura Erupts in Second Half to Post 8th Consecutive Victory

Held scoreless in the first half, Agoura High exploded for 6 goals after intermission to defeat Santa Clara, 6-0, in a Frontier League boys’ soccer match Tuesday at Santa Clara.

Matt Friedman scored 2 goals and assisted Dominic Zapata on another as the Chargers (11-2-1, 2-0 in league play) won their eighth consecutive match.

Agoura, the 1987 Southern Section 1-A Division champion and a semifinalist last year, is ranked No. 1 in this week’s poll.

St. Francis 2, Loyola 0--Led by All-American nominee Roberto Guerrero, St. Francis won a Del Rey League opener at St. Francis before 300 spectators.

Guerrero and teammate Matt Hydar each scored second-half goals for the Golden Knights (9-1, 1-0), who are ranked No. 8 in the Southern Section 3-A Division.

Chaminade 2, Harvard 0 (OT)--Seniors Nico Fasano and Brady Mitchell scored in overtime for Chaminade (6-2, 1-0) in a San Fernando Valley League match at Chaminade.

L.A. Baptist 2, Village Christian 1--Shane Wight scored both goals, including the game-winner with 18 minutes remaining, to lead L. A. Baptist in an Alpha League match.

L. A. Baptist (10-4, 2-0) is ranked No. 2 in the Southern Section Small Schools Division.

Jason Jones scored for Village Christian (4-4-2, 0-2).

In Monday’s matches:

San Fernando 3, Canoga Park 1--Elenilson Garcia, Jaime Ballesteros and Sergio Pizano all scored second-half goals to lead host San Fernando (4-2, 1-1) to a Northwest Valley Conference victory.

Granada Hills 1, El Camino Real 0--Heros Daniels scored 14 minutes into the second half to lead Granada Hills (3-1-1, 1-1) to a Northwest Valley Conference win at home.

Chatsworth 0, Cleveland 0--Host Cleveland (2-3-1, 1-0-1) remained undefeated in Northwest Valley Conference play.

Simi Valley 2, Newbury Park 0--James Albin and Willie Ruiz scored second-half goals to lead the Pioneers in a Marmonte League match at Simi Valley. Goalkeeper Dan Madsen had 6 saves for Simi Valley (15-2, 3-0).

Taft 6, Kennedy 0--Jake Gwin and Carlos Lopez each scored 2 goals for Taft (4-2) in a Northwest Valley Conference match at Kennedy.
