Roundup : Tanabe Sparks Edison Girls Past University

Krisden Tanabe had a game-high 22 points to lead the Edison High School girls’ basketball team to a 55-39 nonleague victory over University Saturday at Edison.

Stefanie Moorman added 15 points for the Chargers (7-9).

Denise Gangera and Shelly Davis had 16 and 13 points, respectively, for University (14-4).

In other nonleague girls’ games:

Mater Dei 61, Las Vegas Valley 26--Mater Dei opened a 19-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Mater Dei’s Kelly O’Brien had 28 points and 18 rebounds. Cori Martin had 15 points and 10 rebounds and Krisha Thompson 10 points and 4 assists for host Mater Dei (13-5).

Woodbridge 45, Tustin 35--Lisa Wehren and Leslie Rathbun had 13 points apiece to lead host Woodbridge (11-5). Deanna Harry had 17 rebounds to go with 4 points for Woodbridge. Teresa Perkins had 12 points for Tustin (10-8).

In Academy League girls’ action:

Liberty Christian 41, Newport Christian 38--Sharon Crouch had 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead host Liberty Christian (8-3, 2-0). Katiman Melk and Beth Dahlin each had 12 points, leading Newport Christian (7-4, 1-1).

In Olympic League boys’ basketball:

Whittier Christian 101, Whitney 66--Whittier Christian jumped out to a 36-16 first quarter lead and breezed at Whitney. Scott Ferguson led Whittier Christian (11-4, 4-1) with 26 points. Robert Doles led Whitney (0-5 in league play) with 21 points.

Brethren 61, Santa Margarita 48--Todd Mitchell hit 6 3-pointers and scored 23 points to lead Brethren (5-9, 4-1). Doug Grove added 16 points and Chris Beck 15 for Brethren. Dan Bathey scored a team-high 20 points for Santa Margarita (5-9, 0-5).

In Angelus League boys’ soccer:

Bishop Montgomery 2, Servite 1--Erwin Garcia scored visiting Servite’s only goal, his seventh in 3 games this week. Servite falls to 4-7-2, 2-1. Alex Pena and Chad Hinkle had Bishop Montgomery’s goals.
