San Jose State Basketball Team Boycotts Practice

The San Jose State basketball team, riding a 5-game losing streak, ended a 45-minute meeting with Coach Bill Berry Tuesday by refusing to practice.
A group of players then sought a meeting with Athletic Director Randy Hoffman, who said he plans to meet with the team today.
San Jose State is scheduled to play at Cal State Fullerton Thursday night.
Responding to the rumored possibility of a player boycott of that game, Hoffman said there is “nothing to indicate it won’t be played.”
“There is some frustration at this point,” Hoffman said. “I think any team not playing well is subject to some frustration. And the greater the number of seniors, the greater the frustrations.”
There are 7 seniors on the Spartan team, which is 5-11 overall and 1-6 in the Big West Conference.
A player who spoke on the condition that his name not be used said there was “a difference of opinion” between Berry and some players.
“(Berry) gave the players a certain amount of time to go out and practice,” the player said. “No one did.”
