THE PREPS : Boys’ Soccer Roundup : Plasencia, Santa Ana Blank Santa Ana Valley

Gus Plasencia scored onceand assisted on one goal to lead first-place Santa Ana High School to a 2-0 victory over Santa Ana Valley in a Century League boys’ soccer match Friday at Santa Ana.

Plasencia scored with 14 minutes left in the first half as the Saints led, 1-0, at halftime. Francisco Chavez scored 19 minutes into the second half off a pass by Plasencia to give Santa Ana (16-1-5 overall, 6-0-2 in league play) a 2-0 lead.

In another Century League game:

Canyon 2, Villa Park 1--Marcus Mitchell and Fred Velez scored for host Canyon (14-2-5, 4-0-4). Rich Skinner scored for Villa Park.

In the Empire League:

Esperanza 5, Katella 0--Hortacio Vitle had two goals to lead host Esperanza (5-2-1 in league play). Mike Voss, Ted Webster and Andy Dreyfus also scored for Esperanza.

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 3, Rancho Alamitos 1--Pacifica (15-0-1, 9-0-1) clinched the league title with the victory at home. Kevin Ashworth, Dan Barber and Sergio Arjonillia scored in the first half for Pacifica. Steve Sikora scored for Rancho Alamitos, also in the first half.

In the Orange League:

Brea-Olinda 7, Western 1--Scott Maurer scored three goals as host Brea-Olinda (12-3-1, 6-0) clinched the league championship.

In the Pacific Coast League:

Laguna Hills 7, Costa Mesa 0--Chad Muhr scored two goals to lead Laguna Hills (8-3-8, 5-2-6) at Costa Mesa.

In the Sea View League:

Corona del Mar 1, Saddleback 1--Pat Callaghan scored for Corona del Mar (9-5-7, 3-2-3) at Saddleback. Hernandez Santos scored for Saddleback (12-5-5, 6-1-1).

Newport Harbor 3, Estancia 0--Peter Scharnell scored two goals to lead Newport Harbor (7-6-4, 3-3-1) at Estancia.
