Boys’ Soccer : Grosser’s Goal Lifts Westlake to Playoff Victory

Jeremy Grosser scored on an assist from David Lurie with 12 minutes remaining to lift Westlake High to a 2-1 victory over Mira Costa in a Southern Section 4-A Division boys’ soccer playoff Wednesday at Westlake.

Mira Costa led minutes into the match when Westlake put the ball into its own net on a pass to Warrior goalie Jevan Muenzer. “It was the first goal of the game and it fired up the team to score the two goals for the win,” Westlake Coach Mike Williams said.

Mike Zemansky tied the score on an assist from Brett Ferguson early in the first half. Westlake improved to 16-8-1.

Birmingham 1, Monroe 1--Although it will go into the record books as a tie, Birmingham scored both goals in a Valley Pac-8 Conference match at Monroe.

Monroe (11-1-2, 7-1-2 in league play) trailed, 1-0, with three minutes left in the match when a Monroe corner kick was knocked into the goal by a Birmingham player.
