Charles Thompson, suspended Oklahoma quarterback, was released into the custody of his mother while he awaits trial on a charge of selling cocaine to an undercover FBI agent.

Meanwhile, the Norman, Okla., police chief said that Thompson’s arrest may have hampered an ongoing drug investigation.

Norman Police Chief David Boyett said police did not have “firm” evidence that information was leaked to Coach Barry Switzer, but “there’s a lot of speculation.”

Boyett said authorities were planning to attempt another drug deal when agents arrested Thompson.

FBI spokesman Dan Vogel said he could not comment on reports that obstruction of justice charges could be filed against the individual who leaked the information.

Prosecutors in Oklahoma City were willing to release Thompson on certain conditions, one being that he confine his travel to his hometown of Lawton, Okla., and the Dallas home of his mother, Willie Jean Yarborough.

Thompson must also submit to drug screening, actively seek work and report regularly to the probation office in Oklahoma City. In addition, he is barred from possessing a firearm or using alcohol or drugs during his release.

He also was required to post 10% of $10,000 bond, or $1,000.
