City Section Girls’ Basketball : Reseda Dominates 2nd Half of Victory Over Palisades

For a half, the Reseda High girls’ basketball team was locked in a tight game Friday night against Palisades in a City Section 4-A Division first-round playoff game.

But the Regents, the two-time 3-A champions who stepped up to the 4-A this season, broke open the game in the third quarter and coasted to an 82-52 win at Palisades.

Reseda, which led at halftime, 37-32, outscored the Dolphins, 26-9, in the third quarter.

Jennifer Marzahl scored 22 points, Cheryl Hightower had 21 and Aggie Garcia added 17 for the Regents (15-4). Palisades (16-5) was led by guard Valerie Agee, who scored 29 points.

In other 4-A games:

Dorsey 58, North Hollywood 37--The Huskies missed their first 11 field-goal attempts and shot only 23% in the game at North Hollywood.

Michelle Cabaldon had 13 points and seven rebounds and was the only Husky to score in double figures. Shelby Serpa had seven steals and seven assists for North Hollywood (16-5).

North Hollywood, which trailed at halftime, 26-14, converted only 25 of 65 field-goal attempts and was outrebounded, 47-24.

Telana Courseault scored a game-high 16 points for Dorsey (17-7).

Crenshaw 51, El Camino Real 35--Denise Slater scored 10 of her game-high 16 points in the second half as the Cougars overcame a 10-point halftime deficit at Crenshaw.

Kelly Murphy, who added 13 points for Crenshaw, scored 11 after intermission when the Cougars outscored El Camino Real, 35-9.

Kennedy 84, Van Nuys 44--Felicia Stanley scored 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as the Golden Cougars rolled in their first-round game at Kennedy.

Lupe Fujarte added 18 points for Kennedy (14-3), Dawn Coleman had 11 and 13 rebounds and Shawna Smith scored 12.

3-A DIVISION

Grant 50, Granada Hills 48 (OT)--Melissa Sullivan of Grant scored a game-high 19 points and the Lancers made four of six free throws in overtime in the first-round game at Grant.

Grant (8-7) had a four-point lead in the last 10 seconds of regulation before Melissa Hansen and Melissa Kim each made a basket for Granada Hills to tie the score, 44-44, and force overtime.

Canoga Park 67, Lincoln 52--Soo Yoon scored 29 points and pulled down 10 rebounds and Perlen Harris added 22 points and a game-high 20 rebounds to lead the Hunters (8-7) at home.
