Brea-Olinda High School’s soccer season came to an abrupt end Wednesday in the second round of the Southern Section 2-A boys’ soccer playoffs.

Brian Parvin scored on a rebound with less than a minute to play to give Ganesha a 1-0 upset over the top-seeded Wildcats at Brea-Olinda Junior High School.

Cliff Williams’ corner kick was deflected by goalie Jeff Bettencourt, but Parvin kicked in the rebound from 10 yards out.

“You can’t win games if you don’t score goals,” Brea Coach Manny Toledo said. “We had several opportunities to score, but we just couldn’t put them in.”

Toledo benched Jaysn Ochs, the team’s leading scorer with 17 goals, before the match for what Toledo said were disciplinary reasons.

Even without Ochs, Brea still managed to put pressure on Ganesha goalie Brian Coulter.

Coulter, a junior, made 17 saves, including several on shots from inside the penalty box.

After a scoreless first half, Brea-Olinda missed an opportunity to take the lead midway through the second half, when senior halfback J.R. Ochs missed a penalty kick, shooting wide to the right.

The miss was Ochs’ first in seven penalty kicks this season.

Bettencourt stopped eight shots for the Wildcats, including a breakaway by junior Williams midway through the second half.

Ganesha (14-7-3) advances to the quarterfinals where it’ll face Coachella Valley Friday. Brea-Olinda finishes the season with a 14-4-1 record.
