Prep Girls’ Basketball Roundup : McDaniel’s 35 Leads Brea Win

Aimee McDaniel made 15 of 16 field goal attempts and finished the game with a season-high 35 points to lead top-seeded Brea-Olinda High School to an 86-40 Southern Section 3-A girls’ quarterfinal victory over St. Lucy’s of Glendora Thursday night at Brea.

McDaniel, who also had three assists, scored 11 of her points in the first quarter as Brea-Olinda (24-2) jumped to a 26-11 lead.

McDaniel missed her only shot 1 minute 57 seconds into the game when she failed on a layup. She then made her next nine shots as she finished the first half with 24 points.

McDaniel made five more field goals in the third quarter before Wildcat Coach Mark Trakh took her out of the game with 20 seconds gone in the fourth quarter.

Tammy Blackburn, who scored 12 points in the first half as the Wildcats took a 51-27 halftime lead, finished the game with 18 points, while teammate Jinelle Williams wound up with 11 points, including five in the Wildcats’ 7-0 game-opening spurt.

Kristin Triepke scored 15 points, and Jennifer Allen added 10 for St. Lucy’s, which finished 19-9.

Hart 76, West Covina 70--Sara Wilson, Hart’s 6-foot 3-inch center, scored 26 points as the Indians won on their home floor in a Southern Section 5-A Division quarterfinal game.

Hart will play Buena, which beat Thousand Oaks, Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at a site to be determined.
