Oxnard Santa Clara Wins Division IV

Oxnard Santa Clara High School’s Bubba Burrage connected on 11 of 14 field goal attempts and scored 22 points to lead the Saints to a 61-48 victory over Santa Rosa Cardinal Newman Friday night at Ventura College to win the State Division IV boys’ basketball title.
Cardinal Newman (31-4) scored the first six points of the game, but Santa Clara came back to take a 15-12 first-quarter lead and thenhold the Cardinals without a field goal in the second quarter while opening a 28-20 halftime lead.
Junior Shon Tarver and John McGill added 15 and 14 points, respectively, for Santa Clara. Mike Hostetter was the leading scorer for Cardinal Newman with 14.
Santa Clara finished the season 27-3, but that included two forfeit losses. Its only loss on the court was to Edison of Huntington Beach, 39-38.
