Valley 18, Mission 2--E. J. Pape and Vladimir Pajcin hit back-to-back home runs in the first inning and starter Wayne Schull scattered four hits in six innings to pick up the victory in the nonconference game at Valley.

Schull (3-0), who retired nine batters in a row at one point, struck out two and walked two.

Greg Struhl was three for three with a double, two RBIs and three runs scored; Mike Caputi was three for four with a double and two RBIs; and Steve Ross was three for four with two doubles, an RBI and two runs scored for Valley (19-3).

San Diego 13, The Master’s 7--Mark MacArthur led Master’s with two singles, a double and a home run and scored three runs, but USD peppered five Mustang pitchers with 16 hits and scored nine runs in the first two innings of a nonconference game at The Master’s.

SOFTBALL

Cal State Northridge 1-8, Akron (Ohio) 0-1--Debbie Dickmann (15-4) threw a three-hitter in the opener and freshman right-handers Heather Lindstrom and Christy Alves combined on a no-hitter in the second to lead the Matadors (23-11) to a nonconference doubleheader sweep at Northridge.

Lindstrom started the second game but left after three innings because of a sore arm. She struck out two and walked none. Alves walked five and struck out three.

Anna Getherall, Leilani Artis, Lisa Hall and Patti Pearson all had two hits in the second game. Hall, a senior third baseman, had two doubles in the opener.
