One firefighter was injured Monday in a blaze, which could be seen for miles, that started in a Baldwin Park garage and quickly spread to a nearby chicken coop and a storage shed due to high winds.

Officials could not immediately determine the cause of the fire, which broke out at 4:44 p.m. in a garage at 3722 Maine Ave. and spread as embers were blown to the roofs of the other structures, Los Angeles County Fire Inspector Chris Button said.

“It was pretty spectacular, but no homes were burned. It was confined to three outbuildings,” he said.

More than 50 firefighters extinguished the fire by 5:40 p.m. One firefighter was taken to Queen of the Valley Hospital in good condition after being injured by an electrical shock, Button said.

There was no immediate damage estimate.
