Cuesta 9, Pierce 0--Pierce starter Mike Stephenson surrendered four runs in 3 1/3 innings and last-place Cuesta (3-12 in conference play) upset the Brahmas in a WSC game at Pierce.

Southern California College 6, Cal Lutheran 3--The Vanguards scored four times in the fifth inning to rally in the Golden State Athletic Conference game at Southern California College. Doug Rystrom (6-2) went the distance, striking out two and walking three.

Mission 8, East L.A. 2--Mission ended the Southern California Athletic Conference game at Valley College with a triple play.

Right fielder Chris Romo snared Dan Beel’s line drive and fired to shortstop Albert Torres to nab Jose Monchiez off second base. Torres then completed the play by relaying to the plate to retire Dan Lenone trying to score from third.

Westmont 11, The Master’s 7--Westmont (24-13) held off a late rally to win the nonconference game at Master’s.

Santa Monica 8, Valley 5--Chico Garcia tripled in two runs in the seventh inning to lift Santa Monica to a WSC win over visiting Valley.

SOFTBALL

Cal State Northridge 3-0, UC Riverside 0-1--In the opener, Northridge freshman Heather Lindstrom (15-4) threw a six-hitter, struck out four and walked none in a California Collegiate Athletic Assn. game at UC Riverside.

In the second game, Debbie Dickmann was hurt by a first-inning error as Riverside scored the game’s only run. Dickmann (24-5) threw a three-hitter but took her first loss since March 18.

VOLLEYBALL

Loyola Marymount d. Cal State Northridge, 15-6, 15-11, 15-12--The Matadors (11-20, 3-15) were swept for the first time since their Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. opener 17 matches ago in a loss at Loyola Marymount. Outside hitter Bob Samuelson had 13 kills, but had a hitting percentage of only .091.
