With its “Action” newscasts leading the way, KCBS-TV Channel 2 once again captured more Los Angeles-area Emmy Award nominations Thursday than any other local station.

KCBS collected 50 of the 198 nominations announced by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences--six fewer than last year but 13 more than KNBC-TV Channel 4 and 28 more than KABC-TV Channel 7.

KCBS newscasts accounted for 22 of the nominations, including five for news reporting, three for feature reporting, three for special mini-documentaries and two more for investigative work.

Winners of the 41st annual local Emmy Awards, covering 45 categories, will be announced May 20 in a ceremony at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium.

Among the independent stations, KTLA Channel 5 led with 21 nominations, including five for its documentary special “Desperate Passage.” KHJ-TV Channel 9 grabbed 15 nominations, eight of them for the station’s coverage of the Los Angeles Lakers.
