Track Roundup : Thomas Wins Two Events for Valencia

Kevin Thomas won the 100-yard dash in 9.8 seconds and the 220 in 22.3 Thursday to lead Valencia High School to an 84-52 Orange League track and field victory over Savanna at Savanna.

Eric Whitcomb won the pole vault with a leap of 14 feet and Mike Schoenbaum jumped 6-4 in the high jump for Valencia.

In other Orange League boys’ meets:

Brea-Olinda 81, Anaheim 50--Wes Schneider won the triple jump (43-1) and the high jump (6-2) for the Wildcats at Anaheim.

Magnolia 90, Western 42--Phouphet Singbandith won the long jump (21-6) and triple jump (47-8 1/2) to lead host Magnolia. Dariel Whipple of Western won the 100-yard dash in 10.06 and the 220 in 22.6.

In a Orange League girls’ meet:

Anaheim 73, Brea-Olinda 54--Nancy Chabot won the 110-yard low hurdles in 15.7 in a losing effort for visiting Brea. Chabot also won the 220 in 28.2, the long jump (13-10) and triple jump (30-11).

In a Garden Grove League boys’ meet:

Kennedy 86, Rancho Alamitos 41--Charlie Cummings won the triple jump (44-8 1/2) and Brian Cline the high jump (6-4) for the Fighting Irish at Kennedy.

In a Pacific Coast League boys’ meet:

Woodbridge 102, Trabuco Hills 34--Grahem Heppenstall won the pole vault (13-6), Scott Tiveron the 200 meters (22.3) and Scott Capulong the triple jump (44.5 1/2) for the Warriors at Woodbridge.

In a Pacific Coast League girls’ meet:

Woodbridge 116, Trabuco Hills 17--Gina Krouse won the high jump (5-2) and triple jump (36-2 1/2) for the Warriors at Woodbridge. Kaci Keffer won the 300-meter hurdles (47.2) and finished second in the 200 meters (26.1) for Woodbridge.

In Sea View League boys’ meets:

Corona del Mar 106, Newport Harbor 30--Eddie Lavelle won the 800 meters in 1:58.9 for Corona del Mar at Newport Harbor.

Tustin 70, University 66--Erin Vali won the mile and two-mile, but it wasn’t enough for host University.

In a Sea View League girls’ meet:

University 64, Tustin 63--Host University won by winning the mile relay, the final event. Carolyn Griffin anchored University to a five-second victory in 4:18.0. Griffin also won the 100, 220 and 440 for University. Tanya Brix added victories in the 880, mile and two-mile for University.
