IN BRIEF : Houston Buys Out Yeoman Contract
Bill Yeoman, the former University of Houston football coach who has been a fund-raiser for the school, has resigned from that position after reaching a settlement on his contract, a school spokeswoman said today.
“He’s retiring. It was effective yesterday,” university spokeswoman Wendy Adair said.
Yeoman retired after reaching a settlement on his $104,000-a-year contract with the school that ran through the 1989-90 school year. Adair said Yeoman agreed to a lump-sum payment of $217,147, plus $34,233 in retirement benefits and $11,150 for a tax-deferred annuity.
After coaching the Cougars for 25 years, Yeoman resigned following the 1986 season in the wake of allegations he had paid some players and committed other NCAA violations.
