A proposed $210-million domed stadium cleared its final hurdle today when the county voted to raise the hotel tax from 6% to 7% to finance the project.

The downtown stadium will be the site of trade shows and Atlanta Falcons football games and is expected to enhance the city’s bid for the 1996 Olympics.

The final step in a months-long series of intergovernmental negotiations came as the Fulton County Commission agreed to construction terms accepted by the state and the City Council and voted to raise the hotel-motel tax.

“The dome is done. Long live the dome,” Commission Chairman Michael Lomax said after the panel’s unanimous vote.
