An unidentified woman who was walking along Interstate 5 near Fiesta Island Road was struck by a car and killed Thursday, authorities reported.
The woman, who carried no identification, was walking north on the eastern shoulder of I-5 about 6:25 p.m. when she stepped into traffic, according to Deputy Coroner Ken Bell.
A northbound car driven by Philip Kanish of San Diego struck the woman, Bell said. She was pronounced dead at UC San Diego Medical Center about 7 p.m.
The woman, thought to be a transient, was described as black, 5-foot-6, 130 pounds, in her early 30s. She was wearing a yellow pullover.
