Santa Ana : Investigators Fail to Find Cause of Factory Blaze

Share

Fire Department investigators on Monday sifted through the remains of a metal awning factory and warehouse that burned in an industrial area but were unable to determine what might have caused the Sunday afternoon blaze.

All investigators came up with were “lots of dirty fingernails,” Santa Ana Deputy Fire Chief Jim Montgomery said.

The fire caused an estimated $1.2 million in damage at the Pacific Awning Corp. building at 4020 W. Carriage Drive, sending thick, black smoke hundreds of feet into the air. The fire also caused minor damage to the adjacent Artup Corp. warehouse at 3000 S. Shannon St.

Artup, which manufactures lighting equipment, opened its warehouse Monday, an employee reported. Some structural damage to the roof was reported.
