American Legion Baseball : Panorama City Wins Eastern Division Title

Joe Cascione singled to score Dave Garcia in the bottom of the eighth inning Wednesday at Poly High as Panorama City rallied to defeat Sun Valley, 6-5, and clinch the District 20 Eastern Division title.

Panorama City (16-4), which trailed, 4-0, after 4 1/2 innings, rallied for two runs in the fifth inning and three runs in the sixth to forge a 5-5 tie.

In the eighth, Roland De La Maza hit a leadoff double and Garcia was walked intentionally. Shane Wight followed with a single, but De La Maza was thrown out trying to score.

Cascione followed with a hit to score Garcia from third.

De La Maza (6-0) pitched three innings in relief to earn the win.

In other District 20 games:

Woodland Hills West 8, West Hills 4--Woodland Hills West scored four runs with two out in the third inning to erase a 2-1 deficit and roll to a Western Division win at Chaminade High.

Jason Cohen and Jeff Marks each singled to score a run and West added two unearned runs off West Hills left-hander Ted Corcoran.

Woodland Hills West (19-3), which already had clinched the division title, added three runs in the fourth. Bobby Kim belted a two-run double and Ricky Banuelos scored on a ground out by Del Marine.

Left-hander Lance Gibson (6-1) pitched four innings, striking out seven, to improve his career record to 19-3.

Woodland Hills East 6, Foothill Valley 0--Chris Brown pitched a four-hitter and struck out seven for Woodland Hills East in the inter-division game at Taft.

Brown (6-1) allowed one hit in the first five innings.

After taking a 1-0 lead in the first, Woodland Hills East (12-7) scored three runs in the fourth.

Jamie Ziecheck led off the inning with his first home run. And after two walks and an out, Rich Shapiro and Alan Puana hit consecutive run-scoring singles.

Van Nuys-Notre Dame 12, North Hollywood 4--Lou Tapia was three for four, including a three-run home run, and Kevin Milligan was three for four with three RBIs as Van Nuys-Notre Dame (9-10) pounded right-hander Mark Williams for 14 hits in an Eastern Division game at Notre Dame High.

Right-hander Bill Jay (3-2) scattered nine hits and struck out six while going the distance.

Newhall-Saugus 7, Reseda 0--Right-handers Glenn Terry and Ben Ealy combined on a four-hitter and Terry blasted a two-run home run to lead Newhall-Saugus in an inter-division game at Reseda High.

Terry (3-1) struck out three batters in four innings to earn the win. Ealy was two for four.

Westlake-Agoura 8, Santa Monica 8--Westlake-Agoura scored three runs in the last two innings to forge a tie in the District 16 inter-division game at Westlake High.

Mike Suarez, who scored the tying run on a balk, had three doubles in five at-bats.
