A 19-year-old Chatsworth man was shot and wounded Sunday during an argument with two suspected gang members, police said.

Darren Maldonado was shot once in the left leg about 4:15 p.m. as he and an unidentified male companion were getting into a car in the 8000 block of Kester Avenue in Van Nuys, said Sgt. Fred Haptonstal of the Los Angeles Police Department.

Two youths, believed to be gang members in their teens, drove up and began yelling at Maldonado, Haptonstal said. One of the suspects pulled a gun and shot Maldonado in the leg before fleeing in the car, a 1978 maroon Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Haptonstal said.
