Knee Injury May Sideline White for Shrine Game

Russell White, the state’s all-time leading high school rusher, may not play in Saturday’s Shrine all-star football game at the Rose Bowl because of tendinitis in his right knee.

White, who has accepted a scholarship to Cal, first injured the knee while running in Berkeley and aggravated the injury in an all-star game July 14. He sat out the second half of that game.

White practiced Tuesday for the first time for the Shrine game but was far from 100%, according to South Coach Bill Redell, who coached White at Crespi High. Redell characterized White’s chances of playing Saturday as doubtful.
